You might be a TCK in Perú if…

you argue with your sister about which famous Inca the statue in the median represents.

Ana: That is Mayta Cápac.

Maggie: No, Ana! That is Ocllo.

back and forth. back and forth. Our kids can’t name the presidents of the United States, but they know the names from their Inca history books. ‘Murica, watch out for these kids!

  1. Keturah says:

I picked up Mirabel from school on July 4th and she asked me if we had a special song for the US. I started singing the Star Spangled Banner (of course she knows the whole Peruvian national anthem by heart as they sing it daily) and about three lines in she stopped me and said, “What does that even mean?” So I started to explain it and after talking about the “rocket’s red glare” she just waved her hands and said she didn’t get what I was saying and didn’t want to know. I’m sure she’ll get the national anthem down sometime but it won’t be anytime in the near future. 🙂
